Getting items back from the merchant
I think that you should be able to get your items back from the merchant if u accidently sell it, you would have to buy it back for extra tho.
I accidently sold a sword worth 100k+ to the merchant

^ what Uzul said, plus,
Never use double-click to sell. Use the button in the window. If you think you pressed it but nothing seems to happen, do not press it again. Close and open the window just to be safe.
Carry something such as a quest item that cannot be sold. Put it in your inventory as a separator. Put everything that you do not wish to part with after this item. Put the junk that you intend to load off to the merchant as soon as you get to an outpost before it.

I've done that before too. Not worth 100K but I did have a 25-30K axe that I accidentally hit sell on...DOH!!! Last time I make that mistake.
It would be nice if it prompted you on a customized item "are you sure you want to sell this item".

Reasonable reason as to why one would want that. Sometime the game glitches and the item won't sell when you click and I've even had two items sell on me when I clicked once. So another tab where you could go in and get the weapon back for what the merchant gave for it or a little more even wouldn't be bad idea but if you close out the trade window completely then your out of luck. Opening back up the trade window and selecting the tab will yield an empty list.

Whenever I come back from a mission or quest with good items I always put them in storage while I sell the junk to the merchant (ive had something similar happen to me once). If the weapon was one of your weapon sets, what I find helpfull is placing all the weapons in my weapon sets (except the one equipped of course) in my belt then close the belt off to any merchant or trader. Whenever I change sets it swaps out with the one I select next so the weapons I don't use are always in my belt and no other place. However if you use all four sets and you use one handed weapons and offhands only, then there won't be enough room in the belt so you would have to use one of the bags of holding (closing the bag off from any merchant or trader). You could even put your ident and salvage kits in the bag too so you just click away as fast as you want and wont have to worry about selling the stuff you want to keep.

I put all of my nice things at beginning, then my id kit and salvage kit. I don't start selling until after I scroll past those. If you mess up, you can't get it back, sucks, but it's the way it is.

i disable selling from everything except my backpack.
takes a minute extra to move junk out from below but you see each thing you move into the sell zone.
some people cant be bothered to take even an extra minute so..............bleep happens

Eh, it really wouldn't hurt anyone to put this feature in.
I thought I would always be too careful to make that mistake. But it only took one moment of distraction to screw up.

ive lost plenty of money in accidentally selling weapons to the merchant (and if you guys have seen my weapons, you know im not talking about cheap stuff), but ive learned my lesson.
ive since organized by bags and belt towards all my items that arent for merchanting are in there, so theres less of a chance that ill accidentally sell one lying around in the main backpack. i also never click "sell" more than once, without being sure of what im selling. that means, no longer when i get a lag spike will i hit the sell button a seccond or third time, so i dont find that ive just sold 500k worth of items to the merchant.

WoW actually added this a while back. It was a pretty good idea... you shouldn't have to have tricks set up in order to not sell items.

Agreed. I can't see any reason not to have this. It's not like it would be some horrible onerous chore to code in.

Accidents happen and there should be ways to clean them up without having to plunk down another 100K.

I lost 3 bows last night, a total of 100k, because GW decided to let things in my bag be sold, even though I had clearly told it not to allow it...stupid glitches happen...
